Before it heads into construction, we thought we'd take a look at a few interior design concepts that make this modern cottage in the heart of Lantern Village particularly unique.

With the building footprint limited by local development standards and existing site conditions, maximizing all new and existing square footage was a driving factor in the design. The revised entry level floor plan, above, adds square footage at the rear to accommodate an expanded living room, two new bedrooms, and an open den/study.

As the transitional space between the new addition and existing kitchen/dining, the hallway visually and programmatically separates two zones while providing access to the upstairs master suite, as well as to the exterior side yard and new outdoor shower. It also doubles as a utility corridor, with custom built-ins for storage, laundry, and pantry, located behind an oversized barn door.

Custom plywood cabinetry provides for additional storage at the study area, and opens the shared space to the hall and kitchen. Contemporary finishes and color reflect the playful modernist aesthetic of the new black and white exterior, establishing a cohesive overall design, in terms of both aesthetics and function.
