Addressing the natural and built environment from a different perspective, we taking a cue from Japan, with regard to sustainability in a social and cultural context- more specifically, the Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennial, the world's largest public art festival, occurring every three years in the Niigata Prefecture.
We're taking a glimpse into the history and construction of one the ultimate forms of vernacular design- the Igloo. We'll look at how and where this building typology is used and address points of interest that still resonate today as models for how to approach sustainable design and historical precedent.
