Adding warmth with wood details

Posted on by Lauren Moss

A recent project 'off the boards' and under construction incorporates slatted wood at both exterior and interior renovations. As noted in a previous post, the introduction of a cedar rainscreen at this contemporary San Clemente residence creates an welcoming entry, while the pattern and scale of the wood cladding minimizes the sense of verticality.

The inclusion of the same wood at the custom garage door further softens the overall exterior while creating visual balance and material continuity.

Similarly, wood slats add a natural element of warmth to concrete and plaster finishes at the interior bathroom spaces; custom teak platforms at the master and secondary showers bring a tactile sensibility to the cooler tones of the tiled and glass surfaces, inviting user interaction.

At the exposed condition downstairs, an increased edge thickness reinforces this aesthetic concept and accentuates the material.
