Photos from the Site: Mid-Century Modern Courtyard Residence

Posted on by Lauren Moss

MYD’s latest mid-century modern design is under construction in nearby Laguna Niguel, and recent photos from the site convey the new home’s architectural massing and its relationship to the site.

While work from previous renovations had altered the modernist aesthetic, our new plan re-establishes the central courtyard and the indoor-outdoor concept that was fundamental to the original 1960s design.

A pool anchors one corner of the generous entry courtyard, activating the space with additional program and visual interest. To provide for privacy while maintaining views of the hillside beyond, staggered brick walls enclose the courtyard pool and frame the entry and approach.

While the brick reflects mid-century materiality, the building massing of the living spaces restores the original triple gable roof design, creating a contemporary open floor plan at the interior.

We look forward to seeing work progress at the site, and sharing further developments in the coming weeks.
