Sustainable design is as much about the larger context of neighborhood development and urbanism as it is about each building, and architecture and urban design can and should be employed to foster stronger communities, greater opportunity, and a higher quality of life for individuals and societies.
Last weekend marked the opening of a new interactive exhibit at The Ecology Center about water conservation and green living. A collaboration with Hurley H2O, and Zago, this visually-engaging multi-media installation takes visitors on a educational exploration that incorporates art, community, and critical environmental issues.
Located in picturesque Quechee, Vermont, the Simon Pearce glassblowing factory, flagship restaurant and retail store is a beautful example of how historic preservation can sustainably create both inspired and functional spaces.

The California Academy of Sciences is a great place to visit, with the world's largest digital planetarium, a living rainforest biodome and natural history museum. This project by Renzo Piano Building Workshop has something for everyone, and if you're interested in green roofs, it's especially intriguing.
