iPhone + Digital Art

It's ubiquitous these days- cell phones are in almost every purse or pocket, and we use them for everything: texting, checking email, updating schedules, tracking stocks, keeping up with social media and more... once in a while, we make calls on them, too.

As for me, I use my iPhone mainly for one thing- photography, which happens to be the topic of today's guest post at Inspired Design Daily. Often it's the most convenient, readily accessible and discreet means of documenting anything from friends, parties and events, to project ideas, design inspiration and onsite construction progress. These days, smartphones are equipped with powerful camera capabilities, which can be enhanced with a number of accessories and photo editing applications that enable users to elevate their phone pics with one (or two) swipes of a touchscreen.

Join me at Inspired Design Daily today, where I'm guest blogging on the topic of iPhoneography- we'll look at a few examples of beautiful camera phone art, as well as resources, links and accessories for those interested in taking their skills to the next level.

And just in time to ring in the new year!

Cheers, LM

History + Haunted Houses...

This month, for some Halloween fun, we're guest blogging about the Winchester Mystery House, California's most famous historical haunted house. Located in San Jose, the 24,000 square foot Victorian mansion has one of the country's most intriguing legends, which you can read about at Inspired Design Daily.

To find out more about this residence, its lead 'architects', and why it was under construction for 38 years without interruption, make sure to check out MYD's guest post, and have a very happy Halloween next week!

Inspired By...  Japan

MYD is guest blogging at Inspired Design Daily today, and to follow up with our post from earlier this week on the Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennial in Japan, we're taking a closer look at one of the permanent art installations, Potemkin, a 'park for post-industrial meditation' by Finnish architecture firm Casagrande & Rintala.

This space was designed and built to celebrate traditional knowledge and encourage a connection with the environment and was created of all recycled and repurposed materials.  Visit Inspired Design Daily for more images and information on this beautiful interpretation of traditional Japan.

Green Roofs: Large and Small...

So, last time the discussion of green roofs addressed historical applications and newer technologies, as the concept of planted roofs adapts to construction needs and constraints of today, while still creating the benefits that green roofs have provided for centuries.

For this month's guest blog post at Inspired Design Daily, MYD reviews a very unique case study that resonates beautifully, both aesthetically and functionally- the California Academy of Sciences, at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco.  A great place to visit, with the world's largest digital planetarium, a living rainforest biodome and natural history museum, this project by Renzo Piano Building Workshop, has something for everyone.  And if you're interested in green roofs, it's especially intriguing.
