Interior Architecture: Villa Park renovation

Posted on by Lauren Moss

Over the past few weeks, we’ve been sharing the progress of a local project here in Orange County, from early schematic design to design development, and today we’re taking a look it the interior, to share a few of the changes that will transform this traditional space into one that is modern, open and reflective of a contemporary California lifestyle.

In the rendering above, the great room is open to the extensive backyard with bi-folding door systems at both sides of the fireplace. An existing gable ceiling will be converted back to the original sloped ceiling, to which a long skylight has been added, bringing ambient light into the core of the home along the length of the living space.

The sloped ceiling continues through to the enlarged master bedroom, which has been given over 200 extra square feet, as well as a larger bath and private deck.

The master bathroom extension serves to define that outdoor space, with a completely reconfigured plan that allows for a more functional layout and additional storage and closet space.

We’re still working out materials, finishes and detailing, and will continue to do so as things progress. However, the general design for both the floor plans and elevations are working together well, and the process is moving forward into construction documents for this unique, contemporary project.
