Studio Snapshots: Architectural Process + Elevation Design

Posted on by Lauren Moss

Project Progress Update // Our architectural process involves an iterative approach that begins with loose sketches, studies and explorations. These ideas are then translated into hard-lined concepts that respond to the program and site, as well as any applicable guidelines, codes and constraints.

For this current project on the boards in Laguna Beach, we look at the floor plan from multiple angles and provide several options that accommodate the scope- a renovation within the existing building footprint and the addition of a new upper level.

Consideration for exterior building massing is concurrent with the development of the floor plan, and the initial design for this coastal home emphasizes clean lines, balanced proportions and natural textures. The concept is further conveyed through exterior elevation drawings, which reflect a modernist aesthetic with a material palette of vertical cedar, brick and concrete.
